The parents and taxpayers in Dutchess County were not getting heard at their schools.

They took their concerns to the county on March 9. Before the public began comments Legislator Joel Tyner said, “I don’t support the Common Core.” He further mentioned that we should treat students and teachers with respect. Cathy Sapeta, a teacher in Dutchess County, recommended a resolution to

Support the Passage of New York State Assembly Assembly Bill A05142-2015 (Graff) and Supporting The Reintroduction and Passage of a Companion Bill in the Senate, An Act To Amend The Education Law, In Relation To The Common Core State Standards Initiative And The Race To The Top Program

Another teacher, Gwen Tibbals, said she heard Dr. Peg Luksik, a highly credentialed expert, as did others who were in attendance at a public forum a year ago. Dr. Luksik instructs from original source documents. This Common Core system focuses on the floor.

Why a County Resolution Campaign?

New Yorkers United for Kids is working in all 62 New York Counties and urges you to tell your friends about them.  It is within the power of the county legislature to enact a non-binding resolution requesting the state legislature to repeal the Common Core legislation.

Parents know best

Several mothers shared stories of how the Common Core is harming their children and urged the legislators to bring back local control to education. Laura Bagdy LiBlassi said, “Common Core destroys the love our learning.” And Anne LaValle, mother of seven, commented on the impact of property values and taxes. Citizens with other concerns began their comments stating they were not going to address Common Core. But they did in fact make a comment about Common Core and it further echoed the facts that it is bad and should be removed from our schools. Constantine echoed the concerns of the mothers. He exclaimed, “It (Common Core) won’t do one iota to increase education.”
