Help stop the war on youth. We are New Yorkers. We never settle. We don’t negotiate to the lowest common denominator a politician will give us. We get what we want. Hey New York! Let’s get rid of Common Core.
Why a County Resolution Campaign?

New York State Constitution on county resolutions.
- Article 9, Section 2, subd (c) (10) of the NY state constitution affords county legislatures broad power to adopt local laws not inconsistent with the constitution or general laws re, among other things, the well-being of persons within their jurisdiction.
This is essentially recognition of what is known in the common law as the “police power”, belonging to all municipal governments including counties as municipal corporations, to enact laws for the general welfare.
The Common Core is certainly a matter bearing on the general welfare. Further, a mere request to the state legislature to act cannot be deemed inconsistent with the constitution and general laws. It is within the power of the county legislature to enact a non-binding resolution requesting the state legislature to repeal the Common Core legislation.
